About Us

Abbotsford Park Road Club is one of the oldest cycling clubs in the Greater Manchester area.

We support and encourage cycle racing and touring at all levels.

Club Runs

Every Sunday morning our club run sets off from Handforth. We typically cover about 70 - 75 miles from the Handforth meeting point and back, with a traditional clubrun lunch stop at some of the finest cycling cafes in Cheshire and Derbyshire, (please see cafe map) and return by late afternoon.
Although, the full distance can be long - good preparation for sportive or endurance events - for those needing to get back early, a group often turns back halfway and covers 40 - 50 miles.
New riders are welcome to meet us at Handforth - see map - and join us for all or part of the distance.

The club was created in Manchester in 1942 by the amalgamation of 6 other Manchester cycling clubs to keep local cycling alive during the war years. It was seen as a temporary measure and at that time no one expected that we would still be thriving into the 21st. century.

Our most celebrated member is Graham Jones, who joined the club as a 15-year old in 1972 and went on to a glittering racing career, riding in 5 Tours de France.

New members are always welcome!. For further details of club membership, club runs, racing or social activities please e-mail the club secretary
